At DNO Produce, we take pride in partnering with local farms that share our commitment to providing fresh, high-quality produce. This month, our Field to Fork series highlights New Century CSA, a farm that has been a cornerstone of central Ohio’s agricultural community. Founded two generations ago as a grain farm, New Century CSA transitioned to growing produce in 1999. Since then, it has become a beloved source of fresh vegetables for many local families and businesses.

New Century CSA is run by Tim and Christy Cook, who manage both the farming operations and backend communications. They practice community-supported agriculture (CSA), a model that bridges the gap between growers and customers. Every week, they deliver boxes of fresh produce to a loyal customer base across central Ohio.

These boxes, similar to a produce subscription, are packed with seasonal favorites such as green onions, leafy greens, peas, cucumbers, sweet corn, and watermelon. Tim loves this aspect of his business because it keeps him connected with the community, fostering a sense of trust and transparency.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, New Century CSA saw a surge in demand as people sought out local and delivery options to avoid grocery stores. This shift in consumer behavior highlighted the importance of supporting local agriculture and the benefits of receiving fresh, sustainably grown produce right at your doorstep. For Tim, one of the most rewarding parts of farming is watching the produce grow. From planting to harvesting, he is involved in every step, ensuring that each vegetable reaches its peak quality.

New Century CSA employs innovative farming techniques to maintain the health and sustainability of their crops. They use plastic on their crop beds to reduce the need for pesticides and to stabilize water levels, making the crops less susceptible to weather variations. Additionally, they have implemented underground watering systems that allow precise control of water for different crops. This method not only conserves water but also enhances the growth and quality of the produce.

We are proud to source a variety of produce from New Century CSA, including their sweet corn, which is a hit among our customers. Tim’s dedication to sustainable farming and his passion for growing fresh, nutritious food resonate with our values and mission. Supporting local farms like New Century CSA not only provides us with delicious, fresh produce but also strengthens our community and promotes sustainable agricultural practices.
